Andriel is the Elven Loremaster and the fellowship’s clearest support specialist. The official Legacy Edition description emphasizes healing and area-of-effect abilities, but effective support is more than reacting to empty health. Andriel controls where the group can stand, keeps revives possible, and turns crowded fights into manageable lanes while Eradan removes distant pressure and Farin occupies the front.
Best position
Stand close enough to reach allies but far enough behind Farin that one enemy swing does not hit the entire group.
Healing judgment
Stabilize before a chain of downs; do not empty every resource on damage that safe movement could avoid.
Area pressure
Place effects where enemies must travel or cluster, not on a target that will leave the zone immediately.
Exploration value
Collect blue herbs and complete potion-related work while the route is quiet enough to confirm pickups.
Build a support lane, not a distant perch
Andriel needs sight of the fellowship. A position at extreme range may feel safe until a companion falls behind terrain or an enemy blocks the revive path. Begin encounters one movement step behind the front, with a lateral exit and an unobstructed view of both allies. Let Farin intercept close attackers and let Eradan challenge ledges.
Move when the battle line moves. If Farin advances through a gate while Andriel remains in the prior room, healing and control lose value. If the group retreats, do not stay planted to finish a long cast. Preserving the support hero often saves more time than squeezing damage from a closing window.
Against archers or sorcerers, use cover and call the target rather than attempting to out-trade sustained ranged fire. Andriel can contribute damage, but her unique value disappears if she is the first hero downed.
Heal early enough to change the fight
Watch patterns as well as health bars. A companion at moderate health who is isolated under three enemies may be more urgent than a lower-health ally already disengaging safely. Stabilize the person who keeps the fellowship functional, then create space for recovery. Healing after an unavoidable follow-up has begun may be too late.
Do not turn support into resource waste. If one hero can evade a ground effect or use a potion without endangering anyone, preserve Andriel’s skill resource for a group emergency. Conversely, saving every ability until after two companions fall is not efficiency. Learn the cost and recovery of each live skill rank so the resource has a planned reserve.
In co-op, say when a major heal or protective effect is unavailable. That lets the front line shorten its next commitment. In solo, a hot-swap to Andriel should begin by locating companions and threats, not immediately casting toward the camera.
Shape crowds with deliberate placement
Area abilities matter most at doorways, narrow approaches, revive zones, and the places where multiple enemies have already committed. Lead a moving group into the effect or place it on the line it must cross. Casting at the current location of a fast enemy can leave the useful area behind.
Separate control from damage when judging a skill. An effect that interrupts a dangerous attacker or grants two safe revival seconds may be more valuable than a larger number on an ordinary enemy. Against bosses, wait for a stable phase or recovery window rather than placing everything beneath a target about to leap away.
Keep one simple close-range response. When an enemy reaches Andriel, evade toward the fellowship, interrupt if available, and restore distance. Repeatedly retreating deeper into unexplored terrain can trigger another pack and erase the advantage of crowd control.
Use herbs and potions as campaign progress
The current Legacy Edition completion route highlights Andriel’s blue-herb pickups and potion crafting for the Herb-master achievement, which requires creating fifteen potions. Gather visible plants during Normal exploration and check the relevant inventory or statistic at safe points. A plant seen beside the path is not progress until the interaction registers.
Rivendell’s Miruvor side quest asks for five Miriloth, two Gilivor, and honey according to the current route. Keep quest ingredients distinct from ordinary consumables and return them through the proper dialogue. Do not sell or consume a named quest component just because a potion objective is active.
If a pickup is inaccessible while another hero is selected, switch only after clearing the area. Confirm the prompt and then return to the hero best suited to the next encounter.
Equip Andriel around uptime and safety
Meet armor requirements that solve real survivability problems, then invest according to the skills and weapon actually used. Compare equipment bonuses in the live screen; a nominal damage increase may be less important than keeping Andriel active through a crowded wave. Retain named yellow armor for the six-slot Well-arrayed set even if a piece is temporarily awkward.
Elf-stones should reinforce a chosen role. Apply one to stable equipment after confirming its effect and destination. Avoid using a valuable stone on an item Andriel will replace at the next merchant simply because the socket is empty.
The Andriel build guide turns these priorities into a point plan. See Farin when the party needs a stronger front instead of more support.
