Farin is the Dwarven Champion, built to absorb punishment and deal heavy melee damage. His real party value is control: he meets enemies before they reach Andriel, creates time for Eradan to aim, and makes revives safer. A durable hero is not invulnerable, so the strongest Farin play combines blocking, short punishments, crossbow utility, and deliberate positioning.
Front-line rule
Meet pressure where allies can still support you; charging around a corner removes the reason to be durable.
Crossbow job
Interrupt distant threats, hit sappers, and contribute while closing instead of ignoring ranged pressure.
Defensive value
Block or evade the dangerous attack, then answer during recovery rather than trading every hit.
World interaction
Inspect cracked barriers and use Farin's strength where the route signals a hero-specific breakable wall.
Hold a line the fellowship can use
Choose the front at a doorway, corner, or open lane where Andriel can see Farin and Eradan can shoot past him. Advance far enough to engage, not so far that support crosses another trigger. Enemies that turn toward the back line deserve an immediate response because they erase the party structure.
Do not crowd a boss against terrain that hides its signals. Leave room to step away from ground effects and sweeping attacks. If the camera is trapped, move the fight into a clearer area before resuming damage. Farin’s health pool provides time to correct position; it should not be spent to avoid correcting it.
In solo play, the AI may not preserve the chosen formation. Hot-swap briefly when a ledge attacker or healing emergency demands it, then return to Farin only after the outgoing hero is safe. In co-op, announce when the front is retreating so allies do not commit to an effect in the abandoned lane.
Turn defense into a reliable attack window
Identify which enemy strike ends a safe sequence. Use a short attack when the next signal is uncertain and a stronger commitment after a clear miss, stagger, or knockdown. Blocking everything without answering allows the encounter to expand, while attacking through every signal consumes healing that later phases need.
Current Legacy Edition completion routing highlights Indomitable Spirit, War-cry, Dwarf-armor, Battle-fury, Battle-ready, and Determination as parts of a late Farin plan. Read their exact live descriptions and prerequisites. Choose a connected response to pressure rather than purchasing names from a list without understanding their cost.
War-cry and defensive tools are most useful before the fellowship collapses. Set a trigger such as a dangerous wave entering melee, a revive becoming necessary, or a boss phase beginning. Waiting until Farin is already downed turns an available control tool into an unused one.
Make the crossbow part of the build
Farin’s crossbow prevents the Champion from being irrelevant while closing. Current routing calls out Crossbow Adept and Explosive Bolt for ranged contribution. Use them against archers, sorcerers, sappers, clustered enemies, or an exposed target when a melee approach is unsafe.
Meet the Dexterity requirement of the crossbow you actually intend to use. Do not keep adding Dexterity for hypothetical drops after the planned weapon is equipped. Test projectile behavior and skill cost in an ordinary encounter before relying on it during a boss or a gate defense.
During the Siege of Nordinbad, mounted weapons and sappers create priorities beyond the closest melee target. Farin can guard an operator, leave the emplacement to stop a breach, or use his own crossbow when the fixed weapon has no valid lane. Durability supports the objective; it does not replace reading it.
Spend attributes against concrete requirements
A current completion build meets crossbow Dexterity, satisfies armor Stamina, places roughly 20–25 points into Will, and then favors Strength. Treat that as a working route tied to specific gear. Inspect the next useful armor and crossbow before every allocation because a different drop order changes which requirement is urgent.
Strength supports the heavy melee identity, Stamina keeps desired armor usable, and Will supports skill access. The right balance is visible in failure patterns: being one requirement short of a major armor piece, emptying the skill resource before a second wave, or taking too long to finish a safe boss opening.
Retain six-slot named armor families. Farin is a common candidate for Legendary set farming, but any hero can satisfy Well-arrayed when all matching yellow pieces are equipped together.
Break barriers and protect recovery
At Mount Gundabad’s Alpine Pass, current routing identifies a cracked wall on the left side of a small cave near the campfire. Switch to Farin after the area is safe, break it, and collect the Mithril-related chest. Similar hero cues should be handled when found rather than postponed beyond a one-way transition.
When an ally falls, turn threats away or control them before reviving. In co-op, Farin can cover the interaction instead of attempting it simply because he has more health. A protected Andriel revive may restore the entire group more reliably than letting the tank absorb unchecked strikes over the prompt.
See the Farin build for a later-difficulty allocation and the Mount Gundabad walkthrough for the breakable-wall route.
